Roundtable on cervical screening in LGBT+ communities: Exploring the barriers and identifying opportunities to reduce inequalities

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and the APPG on Global LGBT+ Rights would like to invite you to our event: “Roundtable on cervical screening in LGBT+ communities: Exploring the barriers and identifying opportunities to reduce inequalities”

Wednesday 24th March, 1-2pm – Zoom.

We will be discussing the specific barriers faced by the LGBT+ community when accessing cervical screening, and the actions needed to reduce inequalities in access.

Expert speakers include:

·         Alex Davies-Jones MP

·         Dr Alison Berner (Specialist Registrar in Gender Identity)

·         Jacob Bayliss (CEO of Switchboard)

Along with the HPV vaccine, cervical screening is the best way to protect against cervical cancer and prevents over 7 in 10 diagnoses. Despite this, cervical screening attendance has largely been falling for the last two decades with over one in four not taking up their invitation. Our speakers will explore common myths and misconceptions around screening among the LGBT+ community, including new research looking at the complex personal and systemic barriers trans men and non-binary people face. Following this, there will be the opportunity for a Question & Answer session.
